Larger companies have had to report on their gender pay gap for some time and it is likely that in time the Government will require smaller companies to do so.
Currently, the law does not require companies to report on their ethnicity pay gap. However, accountancy firm PwC recently conducted a poll of 100 companies about this. They found that despite it not being a legal requirement, the proportion of companies calculating their ethnicity pay gap increased from 5% in 2018 to 23% in 2020. They also found that 40% of those companies published the results voluntarily.
A petition calling for mandatory ethnicity pay gap reporting has now reached over 100,000 signatures which triggers a parliamentary debate on the issue so there will likely be further developments in time.
