Philip is a Senior Associate in the team. After qualifying as a solicitor, he specialised in Employment & HR Law, working with a wide range of clients from a number of different sectors. Prior to working with employers, Philip’s background focussed on acting for employees. This background allows Philip to understand the issues that his employer clients are facing from a different angle. It also means he can come up with commercial and pragmatic resolutions to problems. Philip is also committed to working in an efficient, cost-effective way.
Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Philip worked in-house at Boots head office in Nottingham, in the HR and recruitment team. This has given Philip first-hand and practical experience of recruitment and HR issues, alongside a working knowledge of the daily dealings of a large and busy HR department.
Philip took the plunge into the legal side of HR, and since then he hasn’t looked back! He has worked with a number of business clients on complex and sensitive issues such as TUPE transfers, exiting senior managers from international organisations and grievances related to serious alleged breaches of the Equality Act 2010.
Philip prides himself on offering top quality client care and puts this at the centre of all of his work. He has been described by clients as being a lawyer “who actually listens and cares” and as a result many of Philip’s clients have felt that they have been able to trust him and speak to him in ways that they might not normally speak to a lawyer. The result – his clients get much more out of the professional relationship.
Philip’s recognises that one size does not fit all. Accordingly, his approach is to work closely with his clients to get a better understanding of their organisation, so that he knows precisely what they need and how they need it to be delivered. He can then adapt and tailor the advice and support that he gives.
Outside of the office, Philip’s passion lies in the theatre (watching, not performing) and he loves nothing more than spending time with his husband and their labradoodle puppy, Benji.
